| At C.C.B. Prep School of Livingston, we provide the following programs: English Language Arts Program - Offered for all levels - The English Language Arts Program at C.C.B. School is shaped by the conviction that language is the essential means of gaining self-knowledge and for participating in community. Therefore, English Language Arts Program for each group level is focused on the accumulation of reading and writing skills. First we introduce the student to the joys of reading and writing. Then we invites the student to refine the skills inherent to each activity to enhance the ability to develop their own voice and to enrich their appreciation of other voices. The emphasis may vary from course to course, but the goals of instruction are constant: the development of skills of expression, listening and understanding. The courses in group level sequence are differentiated primarily by the increasing complexity and sophistication of the writings the students compose and the works they read. At every level, students are likely to write in various forms and to read works representing diverse voices and experiences. Mathematics Program - Offered for all levels - The goal of the Mathematics Program at C.C.B. School is for all of our students to understand and appreciate the mathematics they are studying. They will come to read, write, explore and communicate in the language of mathematics with confidence. They will be taught to used appreciate and use mathematics in everyday life. It is our belief that problem-solving (investigating, conjecturing, predicting, analyzing and verifying), followed by a well-reasoned presentation of results is central to the process of learning mathematics, and that this learning happens most effectively in a cooperative, student-centered classroom. Our program is problem-focused rather than topic-focused. The purpose of this format is to have students continually encounter mathematics in meaningful contexts, enabling them to draw and then verify their own conclusions. Reading and Essay Program - Offered for all levels - At C.C.B. writing is taken seriously. Wrriting is an important part of school, increasingly an important part of standardized test-taking and eventually and important part of life. Instruction in written expression begins in the early grades at C.C.B., moving from vocabulary development to sentence structure, on to paragraph formation and eventually to essay writing. In a structured, nurturing environment, your child is encouraged to explore his potential in the area of written expression. In order for skills to progress, a student must write frequently and a teacher must read and evaluate all writing. Student-teacher interaction is an important part of our writing program. A certified experienced teacher reviews all writing and individual comments are made on each assignment as to how the student can improve. Students also have the benefit of writing conferences, either in small groups or individually, with their teacher as a means of teacher feedback. The goal of our program is to move students toward becoming self-sufficient writers who are able to eventually independently self-evaluate and revise their own work. C.C.B.'s systematic instruction emphasizes additional information not taught in the public schools, clarification and restatement of the basics, as well as enrichment lessons as determined by your child's individual need. PSAT for College Scholarship Program - Step by step guidance to earning collegee scholarship and the increasing of student's academic merit. New SAT I Test - The College Board continually seeks to improve the SAT. The exam has changed several times in its history, most recently in 1994. The latest changes are being made to align the SAT more closely to high school curricula and the skills required for success in college today. The SAT assesses student reasoning based on knowledge and skills developed by the student in school coursework. The new SAT will improve the alignment of the test with current curriculum and institutional practices in high school and college. By including a third measure of skills ?writing, the new SAT will help colleges make better admissions and placement decisions. In that way, the new SAT will reinforce the importance of writing throughout a student’s education. The class of 2006 will be the first to take the new SAT in spring 2005.
